What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is being present in each present moment.

Mindfulness is the ability to pay attention to what you are experiencing from moment to moment, without drifting into thoughts of the past or concerns about the future. You are aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different.

Mindfulness is simply enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes and acknowledging the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way, because it won't.

You can be mindful anytime. Anywhere.

One way to embrace the now is to sit quietly and meditate. Relax and clear your head. It can provide clarity to your thoughts. When you are not actively thinking, all the noise in your head subsides and your subconscious can finally be heard in the form of random thoughts bubbling to the surface. Pause and ponder them. Your subconscious messages help reveal the true reflection of your inner self.

Here's how to help you practise focusing on the now:

  1. Pay attention to your physical sensations

  2. Take a deep breath into your lower belly

  3. Fill up your belly with air

  4. Breathe out through your mouth

  5. Notice the sensations of each breath in and each breath out

  6. Be slow and intentional with what you are currently doing

  7. Notice what you see, hear and feel

  8. Savour every sensation

  9. When you find your mind drifting, bring it back to your breath and focus on what is happening now

Empower yourself everyday with this exercise in mindful meditation. Practise this to wake up in the morning or to wind down when you go to bed at night, or do so to be present, or when you want to enjoy each experience fully.

Mindful meditation opens your mind up to possibilities you can't get while busy, insights you only arrive at in the stillness of your mind.

Mindfulness brings about a state of being conscious and aware of your thoughts, words and actions, and choosing them carefully to be thoughtful of your impact on others.

Mindfulness is the practise of understanding yourself and knowing that your thoughts are incredibly powerful. Your thoughts are like potential energy that once put out into the world can turn into kinetic energy when put into action and this creates a movement   of consequence all around you.

So what you think about matters. When you send out positive energy into the world by elevating your thoughts, you are tapping into a higher realm that unlocks limitless possibilities in life that work for your benefit. And the benefit of others around you. Consciously and subconsciously, you attract what you are in life.

Be mindful of that.
